We can either walk to school from the medina, which takes about 35 minutes and is about 2.5 miles, or take a taxi for 6 - 10 dhirams (.75 c - $1.25). Our plan for now is to walk to school, so we have been meeting at Batha at 8:15 to trek over. To be there on time, I woke up at 7:30, showered, and had a piece of baguette with nutella and a glass of warm goat's milk with some nesquik. The goat's milk is unappealing, but I didn't think I should tell my host mom I didn't want it during my first breakfast with them. Marissa and I left for school together at 8:20 because no one else had showed up by then and we didn't want to be late. We found a new way to walk to the medina from ALIF that takes you through the historic jewish quarter of the Medina and by the King's Palace in Fes (remember, the king has a palace in every major city). We got to school with 10 minutes to spare before Arabic class.
In Arabic, we had the first of our weekly quizzes. I believe I did well, but we have not gotten our grades back. We are supposed to go home for lunch, but today we were told to tell our families that we wouldn't return till the evening. We had the usual tagine chicken for lunch and then went about the process of trying to buy wi-fi cards. All the stores were closed for lunch, so instead we went and bought more money for our prepaid phones. As we did that, we saw a political march go down the boulevard behind us. Neither we nor the clerk knew what it was about, but it seemed peaceful and a majority of the crowd were people in their 20's. After lunch, we had Lla MJ's class and then ventured back to our new homes.
We had some time before the sun was going to set, so we walked around the neighborhoods to show each other where we live. We all live close to each other and it should be easy to hang out together at night because we are in a pretty residential neighborhood as opposed to a more marketplace-oriented area. I hung out with Lotfi and Driss before dinner and then we all watched Turkish soap operas dubbed into Moroccan Arabic while we ate. The food they serve is delicious. After dinner, I hung out with my brothers some more and read some of Steve Jobs book before bed.
